Dates and Costs

Costs

You may wonder why we have to charge you to volunteer? Let us try and briefly explain.

The host organisations, (that you will be working for), do not have the resources to pay for accommodation, food, transport etc, if they did, they would perhaps employ a local Ghanaian for the post.

Part of your fees will go as a donation to the host organisation, this may be in the case of the school construction project, money towards building materials etc.

We train Ghanaians in administration, first aid, supervision etc, and employ them in the project.

The process and costs of preparing, transporting, accommodation, feeding and safely supervising and caring for incoming volunteers is not cheap.

Then there is all the administration both in the UK and Ghana,  phone calls, literature, mailing, managing websites, etc.

So what do you get?

  • Pre - departure support.
  • In country, general support.
  • Accomodation and meals with host family, (depending on placement)
  • Accommodation/breakfast/evening meal at the center in Butre.
  • Pickup at airport.
  • 24 / 7 Emergency support.
  • 2 Days orientation at the center in Butre.
  • Part of the costs will be donated to your project.
  • Note:  There is safe filtered water and first aid kit at the centre in Butre. Medical facilities are close at hand and transportation is available in emergency.

What is not included?

  • Flights and Visas.
  • Vaccinations (please see your Doctor, Yellow fever is compulsory)
  • Insurance (medical and travel).

We will calculate costs on an individual basis, depending on what work you want to do, length of stay etc.

However this is an example of our costs;

2 weeks teaching/community work:  £650

4 weeks teaching/community work:  £950

6 weeks teaching/community work:  £1250

 8 weeks teaching/community work:  £1550

( we apologise for the increase in costs this year , but Ghana has an inflation rate of over 20%, and with the new oil production in Western Region, prices for everything, are rising on a daily basis)

DATES

Most dates for 2012 can be arranged at the moment, bear in mind schools are closed July/August, however we can arrange teaching during these times.

BEWARE

There are many bogus companies setting up on the internet, some have excellent websites, but the information/photos/testimonials they use are stolen from other sites. They advertise very low costs (far below realistic costs). We have received reports of people, being stranded, host family and village contcts are not aware of the volunteers placement when thy arrive, having to pay hidden extra costs, etc. Our advice is, 1) ask for contact number/email of some previous volunteers. 2) watch out for those that take money when you arrive.3) check what you are getting for your money. Finally,do some research, and bear in mind "if its cheap,so is the experience".
